Impact Accounting Services

Assess impacts and find meaningful opportunities to drive climate action.

Greenhouse gas (GHG) Inventorying

Measuring your organization’s climate impact is the first step to enacting change - but navigating the shifting sea of accounting standards and complex data is no easy task.

Our team of climate experts are here to guide you through the process and deliver results you can depend on.

  • Greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories measure an organization’s emissions, within a defined boundary.

Inventories are typically conducted annually and consist of three scopes. Scope 1 & 2 include emissions from direct operations and purchased utilities, and scope 3 includes upstream and downstream value chain emissions.

    • Scope 1 & 2 inventory

    • Scope 3 screening

    • Scope 3 inventory

    • Custom GHG training

    • Inventory review (scopes 1 & 2 and/or 3)

    • Supplier & customer data collection

    • GHG software support

    • Preparation for GHG verification

    • Annual sustainability reporting

    • Supplier requests or requirements

    • Establishing a baseline for goal setting

    • Disclosing to CDP Climate Change

    • Submitting to the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)

    • Developing a Carbon Neutral claim

  • A plastics manufacturer was requested by a key customer to report to CDP Climate Change for the first time.

Having never completed a GHG inventory before, the company engaged with PSC team members to conduct their first scope 1 & 2 inventory, screen scope 3 impacts, and develop a plan for inventorying key scope 3 categories the following year. PSC team members also trained staff on how to update their inventory independently in the future.

Completing their GHG inventory enabled the client to confidently report emissions externally and begin strategic reduction efforts.

Climate Impact Modeling

Custom climate models provide easy-to-use tools that enable your organization to measure impacts, identify reduction opportunities, inform stakeholders, and inspire innovation.

Our data-driven team works with you to assess the landscape of existing tools and design the right-sized solution to meet your objectives.

  • Sometimes you need a solution custom-built for your needs.

Our climate experts develop tools and models designed to meet your objectives, whether that’s informing climate strategy or tracking metrics specific to your organization.

Always aligned with industry best practice and accounting standards, our tools arm your internal team with the resources and information to monitor performance for your product, process, or organization, drive decision-making, and report to stakeholders.

    • Product carbon calculator

    • Scenario modeling and GHG strategy planning

    • Industry or customer GHG models

    • Product or project evaluation

    • Goalsetting

    • Strategy development

    • Supplier, industry or customer assessments

    • Emissions reduction modeling

    • Climate scenario analysis

  • A technology developer replaced a historically emissions-intensive manual process with a robotic solution.

To help illustrate the climate benefits of their technology, PSC developed a customizable emissions model to estimate avoided emissions from implementation of the technology compared to traditional industry practices.

The model enabled the company to communicate avoided emissions on a per project basis to current and potential customers.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Carbon Footprinting

Assessing the life cycle impacts of your product or process is a crucial step to understanding your environmental impacts and improving performance.

Our LCA experts deliver robust analyses to provide the data you need to make informed decisions and drive progress.

  • A life cycle assessment (LCA) evaluates the environmental impacts of a product or process over its lifetime. LCAs can evaluate a variety of indicators such as GHG emissions, land use, air pollutants, and water quality.

A carbon footprint is a type of LCA, but only assesses GHG emissions rather than multiple environmental impacts.

    • Product or process LCA

    • Comparative LCA

    • Product carbon footprint

    • Customer requests or requirements

    • Marketing and external claims

    • Research & development guidance

    • Baselining for target-setting

    • Supporting scope 3 inventory assessments

    • Carbon neutral or other product certifications

  • A packaging producer was requested by key customers to provide a carbon neutral product with an on-pack claim.

PSC experts helped the client select a robust carbon neutral certification scheme and conducted a product carbon footprint to evaluate the GHG emissions associated with select packaging types.

The product carbon footprint identified hot spots for GHG emissions reduction and informed a carbon offset strategy to satisfy certification requirements.
